As part of Cardiff’s city-wide celebrations of the 250th anniversary of Beethoven’s
birth, Sinfonia Cymru presents audiences with the rare opportunity to hear all five
piano concertos across one single weekend.

Russian pianist Pavel Kolesnikov has fast become recognised as an inspirational
new talent. He featured as a BBC Radio 3 New Generation Artist from 2014-2016
and has won many awards and competitions. Pavel joins some of the UKs finest
musicians, fresh in their performing careers, to take you on a rousing emotional
journey through the concertos.  Despite being written over a period of only 15 years,
the differences in the concertos, particularly the first two and the final three works, is
striking. Renowned conductor and audience favourite, Gábor Takács-Nagy joins
Pavel and Sinfonia Cymru musicians to lead audiences through the concertos and
the astonishing Symphony No.2, tracing the developing maturity of Beethoven’s
concerto writing from youthful prodigy to his later years of personal adversity and
hearing loss.

This is a unique opportunity for both seasoned Beethoven enthusiasts and curious
audience members keen to immerse themselves in the work of one of the world’s
great classical masters – presented with Sinfonia Cymru’s unique verve and vibrancy.

This programme is part of Beethoven 250, a Cardiff-wide celebration of Beethoven in 2020.
